Log Cabin Program
reaching out into our communities
- To rehabilitate young people struggling in their community.
- To provide educational and vocational training.
- To provide young people with an understanding of desirable character qualities and traits
- Not only to change the outward actions, but also to change a person's life, so that they will be a positive influence on others.
- To turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents.
A Three Phased Program
Phase One - Establish
Secure Full Cooperation of Parents
Parents (or legal guardians) need to understand and agree to the character goals that are vital to the success of their son or daughter. Parents must be ready to reinforce changes in the home setting. Without cooperation of the legal guardians, lasting results will be extremely difficult to achieve.
Separate Youth from All Wrong Influences
A troubled teen must be isolated from all associations that have contributed to his or her delinquency. These include wrong friends, rock and rap music, drugs, symbolic clothes, pornography and television.
Surround with Wise Friends
New relationships must be established with young people who have high standards of personal conduct, genuine love, good judgement, and a spirit of joy and fulfillment.
-
Search Out and Resolve Root Problems
Phase Two - Strengthen
Strengthen commitments of youth by giving them opportunities to serve. After a young person has dealt with their root problems and is finding his purpose in life, serving others strengthens the commitments in his life and gives him a vision for his future.
Phase Three - Settle
Send the transformed teens out to help others. Once the young people have demonstrated that they are able to lead others, they in turn are able to serve their families in making them successful, or becoming a leader in a log cabin.
How the Program Works
- Persons on the program will come through local communities and schools, government authorities, the court system and Victoria Police.
- Young people eligible for the program should be between 12 and 17 years.
- Young people will be placed with trained, dedicated role-models/mentors.
- Educational and vocational training will be provided to meet individual needs and aptitudes.
- Work projects include farm management, welding and metal work, refrigeration, air-conditioning, horticulture, house keeping, cooking, and more.
- The program has a strong focus on building good character traits.
- Young people are trained to be positive influences and leaders in society. Therefore, they are called "Leaders-in-Training".
History of the Log Cabin Program
In 1992 mayor Stephen Goldsmith invited IBLP to begin this type of work with youth in Indianapolis.
In 1994 the Log Cabin Program began in Arkansas. Since that time, Log Cabin and Leader-in-Training programs have begun in Eagle Springs Oklahoma, Moscow Russia, New Zealand, Romania, and now in Australia!
